Alamo homes boast great schools, proximity to world-class shopping & entertainment in Walnut Creek (5 miles to Broadway Plaza), and easy access to both freeways 680 and 24. Alamo is an unincorporated community in mid-Contra Costa County. It's one of the most exclusive zip codes in Contra Costa - and the Bay Area. With a population of 16,000, Alamo is 28 miles (45 km) east of San Francisco, and 45 miles from San Jose. When you buy a home in Alamo, you'll be equidistant between Walnut Creek and Danville.
Alamo has a warm, Mediterranean-style climate. Centrally located, Alamo is only 45 miles from the beaches of Marin or 175 miles from the mountains (and snow!) in Tahoe.
While Alamo's downtown area is not expansive, it's more than adequate for day-to-day needs. Shopping includes a large Safeway, CVS, Rite Aid, hardware stores, delis, bakeries, a Starbucks and a Peet's. Alamo hosts a weekly farmer's market on Saturday mornings. Alamo is only a five mile drive to the nearest Whole Foods or Trader Joe's (Walnut Creek). Along the 24 corridor, it's eight miles from Whole Foods and Trader Joe's in Lafayette. Broadway Plaza is less than five miles from Alamo's town center.
Alamo boasts a variety of family-friendly parks, with a 1.5 acre dog park at Hap Magee. Entrances to the towering 3,800 ft Mt. Diablo, located in the 20,000 acre Mt. Diablo State Park, are in the adjacent communities of Danville and Walnut Creek. Mt. Diablo features 520 miles (840 km) of hiking and equestrian trails, some available for mountain biking. Alamo is located directly on the Iron Horse Trail, Contra Costa's 40-mile hiking, biking, and horseriding trail. It currently spans from Pleasanton to Concord. When completed, the trail will span from Livermore in central Alameda County to Suisun Bay at the northern edge of Contra Costa County, connecting two counties and nine communities.
Directly to the southwest of Alamo is the Las Trampas Wilderness Regional Preserve. 5,342 acres of wilderness and an expanded trail system allows hikers and horseback riders to enjoy its remote and rugged areas.
Alamo has a quiet downtown - and that's just how its resident like it! There are some local favorite restaurants (and some fast-casual options) in downtown Alamo. However, more extensive dining options can be found in the nearby communities of Walnut Creek and Danville.
Movie theaters are located nearby in Walnut Creek, Blackhawk, Concord, and San Ramon. Walnut Creek also boasts The Lesher Center for the Arts, featuring world-class entertainment, dance, music, comedy and theater.
County Connection routes 21 and 321, running on weekdays and weekends respectively, provide local bus service along Danville Boulevard in Alamo, north to Walnut Creek terminating at the BART station (a 17 minute rides) and south to Danville and San Ramon.
Alamo is located about five miles from the closest BART train station (Walnut Creek), or seven miles to the Lafayette BART station. It's a 30 to 35 minute ride to downtown San Francisco on BART.
Founded in 1959, Alamo's Round Hill Country Club includes a championship par-72 course on a lush 6,475 yards of fairways and greens.
